ONCE AGAIN a good time was had by all: Below is a report on Burns Night, and some of the wonderful photos are attached. (If this newsletter came in the mail, all Burns Night photos can be viewed at the April 19th gathering.)
January 25th, a
cold, crisp night, and the perfect evening for our Robert Burns Celebration
at the Cottage Cafe. We had quite a lot of members and friends attend.
Many were handsomely attired in their Scottish finery.
President Jim
Mills was our Master of Ceremonies, and did a grand job. The evening
progressed smoothly--three of Lee Gwyn's dance students performed
(Rachel Courville, Jessica Hradek & Alexandra Friar). One of them performed
the sword dance. All three young
ladies did a lovely job.
One of our
resident pipers, Clyde Buchanan, piped in the Haggis. Reverend Ed Remaly
read the 'Address to the Haggis' and the 'Selkirk Grace'. During the dinner
{which was delicious}, many of our members came forward to read & recite
poems by Robert Burns. Jamie Rich created a refreshing 'Immortal Memory'
for Robert Burns. Cindy Monroe read 'Tam O'Shanter' more like a story than
a poem which made listening absolutely delightful. Dale Perin did the
'Toast to the Lassies', and Glad Remaly did the 'Reply from the Lassies'.
Wallace Skinner even came forward with some poems that left us all smiling.
Tables were buzzing
with members, guests & friends, catching up and getting re-acquainted.
We were definitely a lively bunch!
Later, Clyde played a
number of Scottish songs. Closing remarks were made by Jim Mills, who
thanked us for attending, and for doing the readings, toasts and poems. At
the end, we all stood to sing 'Auld Lange Syne'. . .
just the right ending to a very good
evening.
Glad Remaly,
Cheboygan
Two
very familiar faces were missing
at Burns Night.
Ed Gardner was
hospitalized for an emergency appendectomy, and Mel Gee was just ‘casted’
that day for a broken ankle.
Ed’s home now
and Mel is recuperating at Rosegate.
Speedy
recovery, gents! We’ll be
looking for you in April.
